Prospecting would be the act of acquiring the interest of potential customers that would lead to appointments. It is then up to one’s interpersonal interaction and ability to meet the needs of the customer that would take an associate to the next step of obtaining listings.

Prospecting can be likened to the act of fishing. Advertising in the mass media such as Classified advertisements, radio and television, as well as mailing out flyers or holding roadshows is like casting a wide net to see how many calls and appointments one can get. Below you can see some of the methods and tools you can use to prospect for clients.

1. Press Advertisements, usually Classified advertisements

2. Other Print Advertisements, such as magazines or TODAY paper
Besides SPH newspapers, a vast number of magazines and publications are available for advertising space.

3. Broadcast Commercials or Programmes, on radio or television

• Radio commercials are paid advertising air-time. Live reads offer a more authoritative air as the radio presenter reads out a prepared script live. Open-talk allows the radio presenter(s) to talk about the product/company using a few salient points, while conceptualized talk-show programmes proffer the opportunity to showcase one’s expertise.

4. Car Wrapping
This can be a very effective marketing tool, as those of you who drive are likely going to get a number of eyeballs and therefore calls, especially if the design is eye-catching.

5. Outdoor Advertising: posters, banners, standees, etc.
 Usually posted on-site or in the vicinity, these are cost-effective forms of outdoor media that can get immediate response. The idea is to create a design and incorporate a message that stands out and delivers an irresistible proposition.

6. Guerilla Marketing: Road shows, canvassing, door-knocking, telemarketing, flyers, caveats, etc.
These are the more tactical forms of marketing in that they aim to make active contact with the potential client. Usually these are conducted/distributed at the point of interest or where the client’s attention can be focused on the marketing material.
